Le Mars City, Plymouth County, Iowa is a city located in the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. It is home to over 9237 people (2000 census). In July 2008, its estimated population was 9127, It is the 37th most populous in the U.S. state of Iowa. The city extends throughout a territory of 6.82 sq mi (17.66 sq km ), of which, 6.81 square miles (17.64 sq km) of it is land and 0.01 square miles (0.03 sq km) of it is water, making it the 47th largest by size in Iowa.

As of the census of 2000, there were 9237 people, 3640 households, and 2452 families residing in the city. The population density was 1356.9 people per square mile (523.9/kmē), making its Iowa's 168th most densely populated city. There were 3818 housing units at an average density of 560.6 per square mile (216.45/kmē). The average household size was 2.46 and the average family size was 3.05. In the city the population was spread out, with 27.2% under the age of 18, 8.3% from 18 to 24, 27.6% from 25 to 44, 20.3% from 45 to 64, and 16.6% who were 65 or older. The median age was 36.9 years, the median age of male residents at 34.5 and the median age of female residents at 38.5. The racial makeup of the city was 97.24% White, 0.45% Black or African American, 0.16% American Indian, 0.3% Asian, 0.09% Native Hawaiian, 0.81% from two or more races and 0.94% Other races.
