Lawrence County is a county located in Ohio, in the Midwestern Region (East North Central) of United States. In 2000, county's population was 62319 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 62573, It is the 40th most populous county in the U.S. state of Ohio. It has total area of 457.28 sq mi (1184.35 kmē), of which, 454.96 square miles (1178.34 kmē) of it is land and 2.32 square miles (6.01 kmē) of it is water, giving it the 46th largest by total area among Ohio's county.

In the county the population was spread out, with 24.5% under the age of 18, 8.6% from 18 to 24, 28% from 25 to 44, 24.5% from 45 to 64, and 14.4% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 108.4 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 113.1 females. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 62573, The racial makeup of the county was 96.13% White, 2.27% Black or African American, 0.19% American Indian, 0.39% Asian, 0.01% Native Hawaiian, and 1.01% from two or more races.
