Lawrence County is a county located in Indiana, in the Midwestern Region (East North Central) of United States. In 2000, the population was 45922. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 45913, It is the 32nd largest county by population in the U.S. state of Indiana. It covers total area of 452.07 sq mi (1170.86 sq km), of which, 448.83 square miles (1162.46 sq km) of it is land and 3.24 square miles (8.39 sq km) of it is water, it is the 22nd largest by area in the U.S. state of Indiana.

As of the census of 2000, there were 45922 residents, 18535 households, and 13139 families in the county. The population density was 102.3 people per square mile (39.5/kmē), giving it the 36th most densely populated county among the Indiana. There were 20560 housing units at an average density of 45.8 per square mile (17.68/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.44 persons, and the average family size was 2.91 persons. Age range in the county was well distributed with 24.6% under the age of 18, 7.7% from 18 to 24, 28.1% from 25 to 44, 25% from 45 to 64, and 14.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 95.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.5 males. Its population was estimated at 45913 in July 2008, The racial makeup of the county was 44878 White, 263 Black or African American, 145 American Indian, 216 Asian, 4 Native Hawaiian, and 407 from two or more races.
