Lawrence City is one of the city of Essex County, Massachusetts, located towards the Northeastern Region (New England) of United States. As per the 2000 census, city has a population of 72043 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 70014, It is 13th most populous in Massachusetts. Its area is just over 7.41 square miles (19.19 square kilometre), of which, 6.96 square miles (18.03 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.45 square miles (1.17 square kilometre) of it is water, making it Massachusetts's 72nd largest by total area.

As of the census of 2000, there were 72043 people, 24463 households, and 16905 families residing in the city. The population density was 10351.4 people per square mile (3996.7/kmē), it would be the seventh most densely populated city in the U.S. state of Massachusetts. In the city the population was spread out, with 32% under the age of 18, 11.1% from 18 to 24, 30.3% from 25 to 44, 16.7% from 45 to 64, and 9.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 109.2 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 115.2 females. The median age was 29.5 years, The median age of males was 28.2 years, for females the median age was 30.5 years. The racial or ethnic makeup of the city was 35044 White, 3516 Black or African American, 583 American Indian, 1910 Asian, 71 Native Hawaiian, 4501 from two or more races and 26418 Ohter races.
