Laurens County is a county located in Georgia, in the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. The population of county in 2000 stood at 44874 as per the Census data. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 47848, It is the 41st most populous county in the U.S. state of Georgia. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 818.51 miē (2119.93 kmē), of which, 812.27 square miles (2103.77 kmē) of it is land and 6.24 square miles (16.16 kmē) of it is water, it is the fourth largest in terms of geographical size.

As of the census of 2000, there were 44874 people in the county, organized into 17083 households, and 12177 families residing in the county. The population density was 55.2 people per square mile (21.31/kmē), giving it the 80th most densely populated county among the Georgia. There were 19687 housing units at an average density of 24.2 per square mile (9.34/kmē). The average household size was 2.55 and the average family size was 3.06. In the county the population was distributed as follows: 26.8% under the age of 18, 9.1% from 18 to 24, 28% from 25 to 44, 22.8% from 45 to 64, and 13.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 92.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.4 males. In July 2008, its estimated population was 47848, The racial makeup of the county was 63.68% White, 34.45% Black or African American, 0.22% American Indian, 0.96% Asian, 0.03% Native Hawaiian, and 0.67% from two or more races.
