Laurel County is a county located in the United States of Kentucky. According to the latest population census dating back to 2000, the Laurel County is home to 52715 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 57586, It is 15th most populous county in Kentucky. It is spread over 443.74 mi˛ (1149.28 sq km), of which, 435.67 square miles (1128.38 sq km ) of it is land and 8.07 square miles (20.9 sq km) of it is water, it is the 24th largest by area in the U.S. state of Kentucky.

In the county the population is diverse age-wise, with 25.4% under the age of 18, 9.2% from 18 to 24, 30.4% from 25 to 44, 23.5% from 45 to 64, and 11.5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 95.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.8 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 57586, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 56048 White, 498 Black or African American, 205 American Indian, 297 Asian, 5 Native Hawaiian, and 533 from two or more races.
