Laurel City is one of the city of Jones County, Mississippi, located towards the Southern Region (East South Central) of United States. As of 2000 the population was 18393. The July 2008 population estimate is 18693, making it the 20th most populous in Mississippi. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 15.76 sq mi (40.82 square kilometre), of which, 15.43 square miles (39.96 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.33 square miles (0.85 square kilometre) of it is water, giving it the 33rd largest by total area among Mississippi.

As of the census of 2000, there were 18393 people in the city, organized into 6925 households, and 4540 families living in the city. The population density was 1192.3 people per square mile (460.35/kmē), making it the 56th most densely populated city in Mississippi.
