Lauderdale County is a county in the United States of Tennessee. In 2000, county's population was 27101 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 26692, making it the 55th most populous county in Tennessee. Its area is just over 507.14 square miles (1313.49 sq km), of which, 470.45 square miles (1218.46 sq km) of it is land and 36.69 square miles (95.03 sq km) of it is water, it is the 39th largest by area in the U.S. state of Tennessee. It is ranks third in the size of its inland waterways in Tennessee.

As of the census of 2000, there were 27101 residents, 9567 households, and 6816 families in the county. The population density was 57.6 people per square mile (22.24/kmē), it is the 54th most densely populated county in the U.S. state of Tennessee. There were 10563 housing units at an average density of 22.5 per square mile (8.69/kmē). The average household size was 2.55 people, and the average family size was 3.06 people. In the county the population is diverse age-wise, with 24.8% under the age of 18, 10.3% from 18 to 24, 31.2% from 25 to 44, 21.7% from 45 to 64, and 12.1% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 108.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 109 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 26692, The racial makeup of the county was 63.93% White, 33.97% Black or African American, 0.7% American Indian, 0.42% Asian, 0.02% Native Hawaiian, and 0.95% from two or more races.
