Lauderdale County is a county located in Alabama, in the Southern Region (East South Central) of United States. In 2000, the population was 87966. The July 2008 population estimate is 89128, giving it the 13th largest population among Alabama's county. It is spread over 718.78 square miles (1861.63 kmē), of which, 669.46 square miles (1733.89 kmē ) of it is land and 49.32 square miles (127.74 kmē) of it is water, it is the 31st largest by area in the U.S. state of Alabama. It is ranks fourth in the size of its inland waterways in Alabama.

In the county Population was distributed with 23% under the age of 18, 10.1% from 18 to 24, 27.9% from 25 to 44, 23.9% from 45 to 64, and 15.1% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 91.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.2 males. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 89128, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 78643 White, 9023 Black or African American, 253 American Indian, 392 Asian, 14 Native Hawaiian, and 803 from two or more races.
