Lanier County is a one of the county from Georgia's 159 counties, located in Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. It is home to over 7241 people (2000 census). As of July 2008, the estimated population was 8277, giving it the 21st smallest population among Georgia's county. It has total area of 199.83 sq mi (517.56 sq km), of which, 186.82 square miles (483.86 sq km) of it is land and 13.01 square miles (33.7 sq km) of it is water, it is the 20th smallest by area in the U.S. state of Georgia.

There were 3011 housing units at an average density of 16.1 per square mile (6.22/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.69 persons, and the average family size was 3.12 persons. In the county Population was distributed with 27.4% under the age of 18, 11% from 18 to 24, 30.5% from 25 to 44, 20.5% from 45 to 64, and 10.6% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 102.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 101.8 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 8277, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 6076 White, 2016 Black or African American, 42 American Indian, 34 Asian, 3 Native Hawaiian, and 106 from two or more races.
