The town's estimated population as of July 2008 was 3127, It is the 196th largest by population in the U.S. state of North Carolina. The town spans an area of 2.48 sq mi (6.42 square kilometre), of which, 2.46 square miles (6.37 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.02 square miles (0.05 square kilometre) of it is water, making it North Carolina's 326th largest by total area.
