Lander County, Nevada is a county of the United States of Nevada. The population of the county was 5794 as per the 2000 census data. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 5086, making it the 12th most populous county in Nevada. The county has a total area of 5519.47 mi˛ (14295.36 square kilometre), of which, 5493.63 square miles (14228.44 square kilometre) of it is land and 25.84 square miles (66.93 square kilometre) of it is water, makes it the ninth largest by total area in Nevada. It is ranks seventh in the size of its inland waterways in Nevada.

As of the census of 2000, there were 5794 people in the county, organized into 2093 households, and 1523 families residing in the county. The population density was 1.1 people per square mile (0.42/km˛), it is 12th most densely populated county in Nevada. There were 2780 housing units at an average density of 0.5 per square mile (0.19/km˛). The average household size was 2.73 people, and the average family size was 3.23 people. Age range in the county was well distributed with 32.2% under the age of 18, 6.8% from 18 to 24, 29% from 25 to 44, 25% from 45 to 64, and 7% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 105.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 105.5 males. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 5086, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 91.74% White, 0.53% Black or African American, 5.62% American Indian, 0.39% Asian, 0.04% Native Hawaiian, and 1.67% from two or more races.
