Lancaster County is a county located in South Carolina, in the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. As per the 2000 census, county has a population of 61351 inhabitants. Its population was estimated at 75913 in July 2008, making it the 17th most populous county in South Carolina. The county comprises an area of 555.29 miē (1438.19 kmē), of which, 548.99 square miles (1421.88 kmē) of it is land and 6.3 square miles (16.32 kmē) of it is water, it is the 31st largest in terms of geographical size.

As of the census of 2000, there were 61351 people in the county, organized into 23178 households, and 16840 families residing in the county. The population density was 111.8 people per square mile (43.17/kmē), it is South Carolina's 19th most densely populated county. There were 24962 housing units at an average density of 45.5 per square mile (17.57/kmē). The average household size was 2.56 persons, and the average family size was 3.01 persons. In the county Age distribution was 25.4% under the age of 18, 8.6% from 18 to 24, 30.3% from 25 to 44, 23.6% from 45 to 64, and 12.1% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 98.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.4 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 75913, The racial makeup of the county was 72.64% White, 25.91% Black or African American, 0.22% American Indian, 0.45% Asian, 0.02% Native Hawaiian, and 0.76% from two or more races.
