Lancaster County is a one of the county from Pennsylvania's 67 counties, located in Northeastern Region (Mid-Atlantic) of United States. As per the 2000 census, county has a population of 470658 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 502370, It is the sixth most populous county in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. Its area is just over 983.81 sq mi (2548.06 kmē), of which, 949.06 square miles (2458.05 kmē) of it is land and 34.75 square miles (90 kmē) of it is water, making it the 13th largest by size in Pennsylvania. It is ranks second in the size of its inland waterways in Pennsylvania.

As of the census of 2000, there were 470658 people in the county, organized into 172560 households, and 124129 families living in the county. The population density was 495.9 people per square mile (191.47/kmē), it would be the ninth most densely populated county in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. There were 179990 housing units at an average density of 189.7 per square mile (73.24/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.64 persons, and the average family size was 3.14 persons. In the county Age distribution was 26.6% under the age of 18, 9.2% from 18 to 24, 28.3% from 25 to 44, 21.9% from 45 to 64, and 14% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 105.1 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 109.2 females. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 502370, The racial makeup of the county was 468196 White, 18633 Black or African American, 1041 American Indian, 8584 Asian, 267 Native Hawaiian, and 5649 from two or more races.
