Lancaster County, Nebraska is a county located in the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. As of 2000 the population was 250291. Its population was estimated at 278728 in July 2008, It is the second largest county by population in the U.S. state of Nebraska. It has total area of 846.71 square miles (2192.97 square kilometre), of which, 838.88 square miles (2172.69 square kilometre) of it is land and 7.83 square miles (20.28 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 26th largest in terms of geographical size.

The population density was 298.4 people per square mile (115.21/kmē), making its Nebraska's third most densely populated county. There were 104217 housing units at an average density of 124.2 per square mile (47.95/kmē). The average household size was 2.4 persons, and the average family size was 3 persons. In the county the population was spread out, with 23.5% under the age of 18, 15.4% from 18 to 24, 30.4% from 25 to 44, 20.3% from 45 to 64, and 10.4% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 100.2 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 101.5 females. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 278728, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 253390 White, 9547 Black or African American, 2184 American Indian, 8721 Asian, 265 Native Hawaiian, and 4621 from two or more races.
