Lamar County is a one of the county from Georgia's 159 counties, located in Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. In 2000, the population was 15912. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 17000, It is the 97th most populous county in the U.S. state of Georgia. The county encompasses an area of 185.79 miē (481.19 kmē ), of which, 184.82 square miles (478.68 kmē) of it is land and 0.97 square miles (2.51 kmē) of it is water, makes it the 13th smallest by total area in Georgia.

In the county the population was spread out, with 24.5% under the age of 18, 11.4% from 18 to 24, 27.9% from 25 to 44, 23.6% from 45 to 64, and 12.6% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 91.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.9 males. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 17000, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 70.09% White, 28.31% Black or African American, 0.29% American Indian, 0.4% Asian, 0.01% Native Hawaiian, and 0.89% from two or more races.
