Lamar County is a county in the United States of Alabama. Lamar County had an official population of 15904 in 2000. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 14295, It is Alabama's 12th least populous county. The county extends throughout a territory of 605.47 miē (1568.16 kmē ), of which, 604.85 square miles (1566.55 kmē) of it is land and 0.62 square miles (1.61 kmē) of it is water, giving it the 12th smallest by total area among Alabama's county.

In the county the population was spread out, with 23.6% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 27.7% from 25 to 44, 24.1% from 45 to 64, and 15.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 107.1 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 110.1 females. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 14295, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 12480 White, 1686 Black or African American, 23 American Indian, 10 Asian, 0 Native Hawaiian, and 96 from two or more races.
