In 2000, the population was 13065. making it the 111th least populous in Maryland. It has total area of 14.28 square miles (36.99 sq km), of which, 9.92 square miles (25.69 sq km) of it is land and 4.36 square miles (11.29 sq km) of it is water, it is the 36th smallest by area in the U.S. state of Maryland.
