It is the 31st most populous in the U.S. state of Virginia. The census designated place extends throughout a territory of 8.64 mi˛ (22.38 square kilometre ), of which, 8.24 square miles (21.34 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.4 square miles (1.04 square kilometre) of it is water, makes it the 82nd largest by total area in Virginia.
