Lake Of The Woods County is a United States county located in the United States of Minnesota. The population of the county was 4522 as per the 2000 census data. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 3985, making it the second least populous county in Minnesota. It covers total area of 1775.05 square miles (4597.36 sq km), of which, 1296.7 square miles (3358.44 sq km) of it is land and 478.35 square miles (1238.92 sq km) of it is water, giving it the 12th largest by total area among Minnesota's county. It is ranks fifth in the size of its inland waterways in Minnesota.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 4522 people, 1903 households, and 1267 families living in the county. The population density was 3.5 people per square mile (1.35/kmē), it is Minnesota's least densely populated county. There were 3238 housing units at an average density of 2.5 per square mile (0.97/kmē). The average household size was 2.35 persons, and the average family size was 2.93 persons. In the county the population was spread out, with 24.7% under the age of 18, 5.7% from 18 to 24, 25.1% from 25 to 44, 27.2% from 45 to 64, and 17.2% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 99 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 97.4 females. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 3985, The racial makeup of the county was 3821 White, 16 Black or African American, 87 American Indian, 10 Asian, 0 Native Hawaiian, and 51 from two or more races.
