Lake Forest City is one of the city of Lake County, Illinois, located towards the Midwestern Region (East North Central) of United States. The population of city in 2000 stood at 20059 as per the Census data. The July 2008 population estimate is 20990, It is the 114th most populous in the U.S. state of Illinois. Its area is just over 16.91 sq mi (43.8 sq km), of which, 16.87 square miles (43.69 sq km) of it is land and 0.05 square miles (0.13 sq km) of it is water, making it the 25th largest by size in Illinois.

As of the census of 2000, there were 20059 people, 6687 households, and 5331 families residing in the city.
