Lake County is a county located in the United States of Tennessee. As of 2000 the population was 7954. The July 2008 population estimate is 7323, making it Tennessee's fifth smallest county. It has total area of 193.79 square miles (501.91 kmē), of which, 163.42 square miles (423.26 kmē) of it is land and 30.38 square miles (78.68 kmē) of it is water, makes it the sixth smallest by total area in Tennessee. It is ranks eighth in the size of its inland waterways in Tennessee.

As of the census of 2000, there were 7954 people, 2410 households, and 1615 families living in the county. The population density was 48.7 people per square mile (18.8/kmē), making it the 31st least densely populated county in Tennessee. There were 2716 housing units at an average density of 16.6 per square mile (6.41/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.36 persons, and the average family size was 2.92 persons. In the county the population is diverse age-wise, with 17.7% under the age of 18, 13.7% from 18 to 24, 33.8% from 25 to 44, 21.5% from 45 to 64, and 13.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 151 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 163.4 males. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 7323, The racial makeup of the county was 63.03% White, 35.16% Black or African American, 0.44% American Indian, 0.22% Asian, 0% Native Hawaiian, and 1.15% from two or more races.
