Lake County, South Dakota is a county of the United States of South Dakota. Lake County had an official population of 11276 in 2000. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 11693, making it South Dakota's 16th largest county. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 575.06 square miles (1489.4 square kilometre), of which, 563.23 square miles (1458.76 square kilometre) of it is land and 11.83 square miles (30.64 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 13th smallest by area in the U.S. state of South Dakota.


According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 11276 people, 4372 households, and 2830 families living in the county. The population density was 20 people per square mile (7.72/kmē), making its South Dakota's 13th most densely populated county. There were 5282 housing units at an average density of 9.4 per square mile (3.63/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.41 persons, and the average family size was 3 persons. In the county the population was distributed as follows: 23.7% under the age of 18, 15% from 18 to 24, 23.4% from 25 to 44, 21.4% from 45 to 64, and 16.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 99.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 99.5 males. In July 2008, its estimated population was 11693, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 97.37% White, 0.42% Black or African American, 0.94% American Indian, 0.73% Asian, 0.02% Native Hawaiian, and 0.52% from two or more races.
