Lake County is a United States county located in the United States of Montana. According to the latest population census dating back to 2000, the Lake County is home to 26507 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 28690, It is ninth most populous county in Montana. The county comprises an area of 1653.72 square miles (4283.12 kmē), of which, 1493.77 square miles (3868.85 kmē) of it is land and 159.95 square miles (414.27 kmē) of it is water, it is the 13th smallest by area in the U.S. state of Montana. It is ranks second in the size of its inland waterways in Montana.

As of the census of 2000, there were 26507 people, 10192 households, and 7217 families living in the county. The population density was 17.7 people per square mile (6.83/kmē), making it the sixth most densely populated county in Montana. There were 13605 housing units at an average density of 9.1 per square mile (3.51/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.54 persons, and the average family size was 3.02 persons. In the Lake County, 28.1% of the population was under the age of 18, 8% were 18 to 24, 24.5% were 25 to 44, 24.9% were 45 to 64, and 14.5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 96.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.1 males. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 28690, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 20892 White, 133 Black or African American, 6554 American Indian, 112 Asian, 17 Native Hawaiian, and 982 from two or more races.
