Lake County is a United States county located in the United States of Minnesota. The county has a population of 11058 as per the 2000 census data. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 10609, It is the 20th smallest in terms of population. It covers total area of 2990.82 sq mi (7746.19 sq km), of which, 2099.16 square miles (5436.8 sq km) of it is land and 891.66 square miles (2309.39 sq km) of it is water, it is the fifth largest by area in the U.S. state of Minnesota. It is ranks second in the size of its inland waterways in Minnesota.

As of the census of 2000, there were 11058 people, 4646 households, and 3141 families living in the county. The population density was 5.3 people per square mile (2.05/kmē), it is the fifth least populated county in terms of population density. There were 6840 housing units at an average density of 3.3 per square mile (1.27/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.32 persons, and the average family size was 2.83 persons. In the county the population was spread out, with 22.3% under the age of 18, 6.6% from 18 to 24, 24.5% from 25 to 44, 26.7% from 45 to 64, and 20% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 100.3 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 100.4 females. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 10609, The racial makeup of the county was 97.71% White, 0.12% Black or African American, 0.93% American Indian, 0.18% Asian, 0.01% Native Hawaiian, and 1.05% from two or more races.
