Lake County is a one of the county from Michigan's 83 counties, located in Midwestern Region (East North Central) of United States. In 2000, the population was 11333. Its population was estimated at 11014 in July 2008, It is the tenth smallest county by population in the U.S. state of Michigan. It is spread over 574.6 square miles (1488.21 kmē), of which, 567.44 square miles (1469.66 kmē ) of it is land and 7.17 square miles (18.57 kmē) of it is water, makes it the 19th smallest by total area in Michigan.

As of the census of 2000, there were 11333 people in the county, organized into 4704 households, and 3055 families living in the county. The population density was 20 people per square mile (7.72/kmē), it would be the 13th least densely populated county in the U.S. state of Michigan. There were 13498 housing units at an average density of 23.8 per square mile (9.19/kmē). The average household size was 2.28 and the average family size was 2.79. Age range in the county was well distributed with 21.9% under the age of 18, 8% from 18 to 24, 22.7% from 25 to 44, 27.6% from 45 to 64, and 19.7% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 109.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 107.6 males. In July 2008, its estimated population was 11014, The racial makeup of the county was 85.75% White, 10.36% Black or African American, 1.13% American Indian, 0.23% Asian, 0.04% Native Hawaiian, and 2.5% from two or more races.
