Lake Butler City is a one of the Union County, Florida, located in Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. As of 2000 the population was 1927. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 1942, It is 257th least populous in Florida. It covers total area of 1.83 mi˛ (4.74 sq km), of which, 1.72 square miles (4.45 sq km) of it is land and 0.11 square miles (0.28 sq km) of it is water, making it Florida's 262nd smallest by total area.

As of the census of 2000, there were 1927 people in the city, organized into 723 households, and 508 families living in the city. The population density was 1121.2 people per square mile (432.9/km˛), giving it the 558th most densely populated city among the Florida. There were 832 housing units at an average density of 483.7 per square mile (186.76/km˛). It has an average household size was 2.63 persons, and the average family size was 3.16 persons. In the city the population is diverse age-wise, with 33.6% under the age of 18, 10.6% from 18 to 24, 25.2% from 25 to 44, 18.8% from 45 to 64, and 11.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 85.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 79.3 males. The median age was 29.8 years, the median age of male residents at 27.3 and the median age of female residents at 32.1. The racial makeup of the city was 1243 White, 613 Black or African American, 5 American Indian, 16 Asian, 2 Native Hawaiian, 25 from two or more races and 23 Ohter races.
