Lafayette County is a county located in the United States of Wisconsin. In 2000, county's population was 16137 inhabitants. The July 2008 population estimate is 15871, It is the 11th smallest county by population in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The county extends throughout a territory of 634.56 mi˛ (1643.5 sq km ), of which, 633.57 square miles (1640.94 sq km) of it is land and 1 square miles (2.59 sq km) of it is water, making it the 18th smallest by size in Wisconsin.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 16137 residents, 6211 households, and 4378 families in the county. The population density was 25.5 people per square mile (9.85/km˛), it is the 17th least densely populated county in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. There were 6674 housing units at an average density of 10.5 per square mile (4.05/km˛). The average household size was 2.57 people, and the average family size was 3.1 people. In the county the population was spread out, with 27.2% under the age of 18, 7.6% from 18 to 24, 27.2% from 25 to 44, 22.1% from 45 to 64, and 15.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 100.2 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 102 females. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 15871, The racial makeup of the county was 15676 White, 42 Black or African American, 24 American Indian, 38 Asian, 5 Native Hawaiian, and 86 from two or more races.
