Lafayette County, Arkansas is a county located in the Southern Region (West South Central) of United States. In 2000, county's population was 8559 inhabitants. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 7705, making it the third least populous county in Arkansas. The county comprises an area of 545.07 square miles (1411.72 square kilometre), of which, 526.5 square miles (1363.63 square kilometre) of it is land and 18.57 square miles (48.1 square kilometre) of it is water, making it Arkansas's smallest county by total area.

The population density was 16.3 people per square mile (6.29/kmē), it is the 11th least populated county in terms of population density. There were 4560 housing units at an average density of 8.7 per square mile (3.36/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.46 persons, and the average family size was 3 persons. In the county the population was spread out, with 25.4% under the age of 18, 8.1% from 18 to 24, 24.4% from 25 to 44, 24.4% from 45 to 64, and 17.7% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 106.8 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 113.9 females. In July 2008, its estimated population was 7705, The racial makeup of the county was 62.08% White, 36.48% Black or African American, 0.44% American Indian, 0.23% Asian, 0.01% Native Hawaiian, and 0.75% from two or more races.
