Lackawanna County is a county located in Pennsylvania, in the Northeastern Region (Mid-Atlantic) of United States. In 2000, county's population was 213295 inhabitants. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 209408, It is the 17th most populous county in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. The county has a total area of 464.51 sq mi (1203.08 sq km), of which, 458.63 square miles (1187.85 sq km) of it is land and 5.88 square miles (15.23 sq km) of it is water, making it the 19th smallest by size in Pennsylvania.

In the Lackawanna County, 21.8% of the population was under the age of 18, 8.9% were 18 to 24, 26.4% were 25 to 44, 23.5% were 45 to 64, and 19.5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 89.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 85.4 males. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 209408, The racial makeup of the county was 200670 White, 4656 Black or African American, 253 American Indian, 2153 Asian, 43 Native Hawaiian, and 1633 from two or more races.
