La Plata County is a county located in the United States of Colorado. The population of the county was 43941 as per the 2000 census data. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 50482, It is the 15th largest county by population in the U.S. state of Colorado. It has total area of 1699.93 sq mi (4402.8 sq km), of which, 1692.15 square miles (4382.65 sq km) of it is land and 7.78 square miles (20.15 sq km) of it is water, giving it the 26th largest by total area among Colorado's county.
