Kodiak City is a one of the Kodiak Island Borough, Alaska, located in Western Region (Pacific) of United States. The population of the city was 6334 as per the 2000 census data. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 6228, It is Alaska's tenth largest by population . The city encompasses an area of 4.85 sq mi (12.56 sq km ), of which, 3.46 square miles (8.96 sq km) of it is land and 1.39 square miles (3.6 sq km) of it is water, making it Alaska's 63rd smallest by total area.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 6334 people, 1996 households, and 1362 families residing in the city. The population density was 1832.7 people per square mile (707.61/kmē), giving it the second most densely populated city among the Alaska. There were 2255 housing units at an average density of 651.7 per square mile (251.62/kmē). The average household size was 3.1 people, and the average family size was 3.64 people. In the city the population was spread out, with 29.1% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 32.2% from 25 to 44, 23.1% from 45 to 64, and 6.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 87.5 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 82.9 females. The median age was 33.5 years, The median age of males was 34 years, for females the median age was 32.9 years. The racial makeup of the city was 2939 White, 44 Black or African American, 663 American Indian, 2010 Asian, 59 Native Hawaiian, 343 from two or more races and 276 Ohter races.
