The city comprises an area of 98.09 square miles (254.05 kmē), of which, 92.66 square miles (239.99 kmē) of it is land and 5.43 square miles (14.06 kmē) of it is water, making it Tennessee's fifth largest by total area. It is ranks sixth in the size of its inland waterways in Tennessee.
