Knox County is a one of the county from Tennessee's 95 counties, located in Southern Region (East South Central) of United States. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 382032 inhabitants. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 430019, It is the third most populous county in the U.S. state of Tennessee. The county has a total area of 525.78 sq mi (1361.76 square kilometre), of which, 508.46 square miles (1316.91 square kilometre) of it is land and 17.32 square miles (44.86 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 36th largest in terms of geographical size.

The population density was 751.3 people per square mile (290.08/kmē), it is third most densely populated county in Tennessee. There were 171439 housing units at an average density of 337.2 per square mile (130.19/kmē). The average household size was 2.34 people, and the average family size was 2.92 people. Age range in the county was well distributed with 22.3% under the age of 18, 11.6% from 18 to 24, 30.4% from 25 to 44, 23.1% from 45 to 64, and 12.7% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 93.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.1 males. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 430019, The racial makeup of the county was 377047 White, 38395 Black or African American, 1596 American Indian, 7193 Asian, 225 Native Hawaiian, and 5563 from two or more races.
