Knox County is a county located in the United States of Kentucky. Knox County had an official population of 31795 in 2000. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 32810, It is the 32nd most populous county in the U.S. state of Kentucky. The county has a total area of 387.71 sq mi (1004.16 kmē), of which, 387.66 square miles (1004.03 kmē) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 kmē) of it is water, making it Kentucky's 37th largest county by total area.

As of the census of 2000, there were 31795 people, 12416 households, and 8936 families living in the county. The population density was 82 people per square mile (31.66/kmē), it is 41st most densely populated county in Kentucky. There were 13999 housing units at an average density of 36.1 per square mile (13.94/kmē). The average household size was 2.51 people, and the average family size was 3.01 people. In the county the population was distributed as follows: 26.2% under the age of 18, 9.7% from 18 to 24, 28.1% from 25 to 44, 23.2% from 45 to 64, and 12.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 92.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.7 males. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 32810, The racial makeup of the county was 97.53% White, 1.08% Black or African American, 0.26% American Indian, 0.16% Asian, 0.02% Native Hawaiian, and 0.95% from two or more races.
