Knox County is a county located in the United States of Indiana. Knox County had an official population of 39256 in 2000. Its population was estimated at 38057 in July 2008, It is the 38th largest in terms of population. Its area is just over 524.06 square miles (1357.31 sq km), of which, 515.83 square miles (1335.99 sq km) of it is land and 8.22 square miles (21.29 sq km) of it is water, it is the seventh largest by area in the U.S. state of Indiana. It is ranks tenth in the size of its inland waterways in Indiana.

As of the census of 2000, there were 39256 people in the county, organized into 15552 households, and 10136 families residing in the county. The population density was 76.1 people per square mile (29.38/kmē), it is Indiana's 51st most densely populated county. There were 17305 housing units at an average density of 33.5 per square mile (12.93/kmē). The average household size was 2.36 persons, and the average family size was 2.93 persons. In the Knox County, 22.9% of the population was under the age of 18, 13.6% were 18 to 24, 25.4% were 25 to 44, 22.7% were 45 to 64, and 15.4% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 98.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.6 males. In July 2008, its estimated population was 38057, The racial makeup of the county was 95.82% White, 2.11% Black or African American, 0.24% American Indian, 0.97% Asian, 0.05% Native Hawaiian, and 0.81% from two or more races.
