Knott County is a county located in Kentucky, in the Southern Region (East South Central) of United States. The population of county in 2000 stood at 17649 as per the Census data. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 17385, It is the 64th largest county by population in the U.S. state of Kentucky. The county has a total area of 353.01 square miles (914.29 sq km), of which, 352.19 square miles (912.17 sq km) of it is land and 0.82 square miles (2.12 sq km) of it is water, it is the 46th largest by area in the U.S. state of Kentucky.

The population density was 50.1 people per square mile (19.34/kmē), it is the 71st most densely populated county in the U.S. state of Kentucky. There were 7579 housing units at an average density of 21.5 per square mile (8.3/kmē). The average household size was 2.54 and the average family size was 3. In the county the population was spread out, with 24.5% under the age of 18, 10.8% from 18 to 24, 29% from 25 to 44, 24.3% from 45 to 64, and 11.4% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 97.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.1 males. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 17385, The racial makeup of the county was 17065 White, 151 Black or African American, 21 American Indian, 29 Asian, 1 Native Hawaiian, and 118 from two or more races.
