Kit Carson County, Colorado is a county located in the Western Region (Mountain) of United States. As of 2000 the population was 8011. In July 2008, its estimated population was 7843, It is Colorado's 43rd most populous county. The county comprises an area of 2161.56 miē (5598.41 kmē), of which, 2160.87 square miles (5596.63 kmē) of it is land and 0.69 square miles (1.79 kmē) of it is water, giving it the 18th largest by total area among Colorado's county.


As of the census of 2000, there were 8011 people, 2990 households, and 2081 families residing in the county. The population density was 3.7 people per square mile (1.43/kmē), it is 16th least densely populated county in Colorado.
