In July 2008, its estimated population was 7843, It is Colorado's 43rd most populous county. The county comprises an area of 2161.56 miē (5598.41 kmē), of which, 2160.87 square miles (5596.63 kmē) of it is land and 0.69 square miles (1.79 kmē) of it is water, giving it the 18th largest by total area among Colorado's county.
