Kingsport City is a one of the Sullivan and Hawkins counties, Tennessee, located in Southern Region (East South Central) of United States. The population of the city was 44905 as per the 2000 census data. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 44473, making it Tennessee's ninth largest. The city has a total area of 45.01 sq mi (116.58 square kilometre), of which, 44.07 square miles (114.14 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.93 square miles (2.41 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the ninth largest by area in the U.S. state of Tennessee. It is ranks 15 in the size of its inland waterways in Tennessee.

As of the census of 2000, there were 44905 people, 5369 households, and 3232 families living in the city. The population density was 1018.9 people per square mile (393.4/kmē), it is Tennessee's 69th most densely populated city. There were 21796 housing units at an average density of 494.6 per square mile (190.97/kmē). The average household size was 2.22 people, and the average family size was 2.8 people.
