Kings County, New York is a county located in the Northeastern Region (Mid-Atlantic) of United States. As of 2000 the population was 2465326. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 2556598, giving it the largest population among New York's county. The county has a total area of 96.9 miē (250.97 kmē), of which, 70.61 square miles (182.88 kmē) of it is land and 26.29 square miles (68.09 kmē) of it is water, making it New York's third smallest county by total area.


According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 2465326 people, 880727 households, and 584120 families living in the county. The population density was 34916.6 people per square mile (13481.37/kmē), it is the second most populated county in terms of population density. There were 930866 housing units at an average density of 13183.9 per square mile (5090.33/kmē). The average household size was 2.75 persons, and the average family size was 3.41 persons. In the Kings County, 26.9% of the population was under the age of 18, 10.3% were 18 to 24, 30.8% were 25 to 44, 20.6% were 45 to 64, and 11.5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 88.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 83.1 males. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 2556598, The racial makeup of the county was 51.36% White, 37.17% Black or African American, 0.51% American Indian, 9.26% Asian, 0.14% Native Hawaiian, and 1.57% from two or more races.
