King William County is a county located in Virginia, in the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. The population of county in 2000 stood at 13146 as per the Census data. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 16040, It is the 44th smallest in terms of population. It covers total area of 285.65 square miles (739.83 sq km), of which, 275.43 square miles (713.36 sq km) of it is land and 10.22 square miles (26.47 sq km) of it is water, giving it the 78th largest by total area among Virginia's county.

The population density was 47.7 people per square mile (18.42/kmē), making its Virginia's 32nd least densely populated county. There were 5189 housing units at an average density of 18.8 per square mile (7.26/kmē). The average household size was 2.69 persons, and the average family size was 3.06 persons. In the King William County, 26.1% of the population was under the age of 18, 5.9% were 18 to 24, 31.5% were 25 to 44, 24.8% were 45 to 64, and 11.7% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 96.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.9 males. In July 2008, its estimated population was 16040, The racial makeup of the county was 78.04% White, 18.72% Black or African American, 1.37% American Indian, 0.41% Asian, 0.06% Native Hawaiian, and 1.4% from two or more races.
