King George County, Virginia is a county located in the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. In 2000, the population was 16803. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 23170, making it the 72nd most populous county in Virginia. The county spans an area of 187.79 square miles (486.37 sq km), of which, 180 square miles (466.2 sq km) of it is land and 7.79 square miles (20.18 sq km) of it is water, makes it the 42nd smallest by total area in Virginia.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 16803 people, 6091 households, and 4524 families living in the county. The population density was 93.4 people per square mile (36.06/kmē), making it the 66th most densely populated county in Virginia. There were 6820 housing units at an average density of 37.9 per square mile (14.63/kmē). The average household size was 2.7 persons, and the average family size was 3.12 persons. In the county the population was distributed as follows: 27.8% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 31.7% from 25 to 44, 22.7% from 45 to 64, and 9.6% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 101 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 99.4 males. The July 2008 population estimate is 23170, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 77.35% White, 18.92% Black or African American, 0.39% American Indian, 1.35% Asian, 0.06% Native Hawaiian, and 1.93% from two or more races.
