Keokuk City is one of the city of Lee County, Iowa, located towards the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. The population of city in 2000 stood at 11427 as per the Census data. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 10387, It is the 28th most populous in the U.S. state of Iowa. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 10.58 miē (27.4 kmē), of which, 9.16 square miles (23.72 kmē) of it is land and 1.42 square miles (3.68 kmē) of it is water, making it Iowa's 27th largest by total area. It is ranks seventh in the size of its inland waterways in Iowa.

As of the census of 2000, there were 11427 people in the city, organized into 4773 households, and 3020 families residing in the city. The population density was 1247.5 people per square mile (481.66/kmē), it is Iowa's 210th most densely populated city. There were 5327 housing units at an average density of 581.6 per square mile (224.56/kmē). The average household size was 2.35 persons, and the average family size was 2.97 persons. In the city the population was distributed as follows: 25.4% under the age of 18, 8.6% from 18 to 24, 25.5% from 25 to 44, 22.9% from 45 to 64, and 17.7% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 88.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 83.9 males. The racial or ethnic makeup of the city was 92.87% White, 3.9% Black or African American, 0.27% American Indian, 0.52% Asian, 0.01% Native Hawaiian, 1.99% from two or more races and 0.45% Other races.
