Kent County is one of the 24 county of Maryland, located towards the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. Kent County had an official population of 19197 in 2000. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 20151, It is the smallest in terms of population. Its area is just over 414.31 sq mi (1073.06 kmē), of which, 279.43 square miles (723.72 kmē) of it is land and 134.87 square miles (349.31 kmē) of it is water, giving it the sixth smallest by total area among Maryland's county. It is ranks ninth in the size of its inland waterways in Maryland.

As of the census of 2000, there were 19197 residents, 7666 households, and 5136 families in the county. The population density was 68.7 people per square mile (26.53/kmē), making it the third least densely populated county in Maryland. There were 9410 housing units at an average density of 33.7 per square mile (13.01/kmē). The average household size was 2.33 people, and the average family size was 2.81 people. Age range in the county was well distributed with 20.8% under the age of 18, 10.9% from 18 to 24, 23.7% from 25 to 44, 25.3% from 45 to 64, and 19.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 91.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.9 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 20151, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 82.29% White, 15.72% Black or African American, 0.18% American Indian, 0.76% Asian, 0.05% Native Hawaiian, and 1% from two or more races.
