It has total area of 1109.77 mi˛ (2874.29 square kilometre), of which, 1061.26 square miles (2748.65 square kilometre) of it is land and 48.51 square miles (125.64 square kilometre) of it is water, making it the 13th largest by size in Nebraska. It is ranks second in the size of its inland waterways in Nebraska.
