Kay County is one of the 77 county of Oklahoma, located towards the Southern Region (West South Central) of United States. Kay County had an official population of 48080 in 2000. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 45632, It is the 18th most populous county in the U.S. state of Oklahoma. The county comprises an area of 945.12 mi˛ (2447.85 sq km), of which, 918.7 square miles (2379.42 sq km) of it is land and 26.42 square miles (68.43 sq km) of it is water, making it Oklahoma's 27th largest county by total area.

As of the census of 2000, there were 48080 residents, 19157 households, and 13136 families in the county. The population density was 52.3 people per square mile (20.19/km˛), it would be the 20th most densely populated county in the U.S. state of Oklahoma. There were 21804 housing units at an average density of 23.7 per square mile (9.15/km˛). It has an average household size was 2.45 persons, and the average family size was 2.99 persons. In the county the population was spread out, with 26.4% under the age of 18, 8.8% from 18 to 24, 25% from 25 to 44, 22.8% from 45 to 64, and 17% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 93.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.9 males. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 45632, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 38517 White, 930 Black or African American, 3951 American Indian, 341 Asian, 21 Native Hawaiian, and 1872 from two or more races.
