Kane County is a county located in the United States of Illinois. The population of the county was 404119 as per the 2000 census data. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 507579, giving it the fifth largest population among Illinois's county. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 524.08 square miles (1357.36 kmē), of which, 520.44 square miles (1347.93 kmē) of it is land and 3.64 square miles (9.43 kmē) of it is water, it is the 51st largest in terms of geographical size.

As of the census of 2000, there were 404119 people in the county, organized into 133901 households, and 101454 families living in the county. The population density was 776.5 people per square mile (299.81/kmē), making it the fourth most densely populated county in Illinois. There were 138998 housing units at an average density of 267.1 per square mile (103.13/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.97 persons, and the average family size was 3.43 persons. In the county the population was distributed as follows: 30.3% under the age of 18, 9.1% from 18 to 24, 31.9% from 25 to 44, 20.4% from 45 to 64, and 8.4% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 101.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.8 males. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 507579, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 89.59% White, 5.55% Black or African American, 0.4% American Indian, 3.16% Asian, 0.07% Native Hawaiian, and 1.23% from two or more races.
