As of July 2008, the estimated population was 16091, It is the 52nd most populous county in the U.S. state of Minnesota. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 533.38 mi˛ (1381.45 sq km), of which, 524.93 square miles (1359.56 sq km) of it is land and 8.45 square miles (21.89 sq km) of it is water, makes it the 22nd smallest by total area in Minnesota.
