Jones County is a county in the United States of South Dakota. The county has a population of 1193 as per the 2000 census data. In July 2008, its estimated population was 1024, It is South Dakota's least populous county. It has total area of 971.66 sq mi (2516.59 square kilometre), of which, 970.52 square miles (2513.64 square kilometre) of it is land and 1.14 square miles (2.95 square kilometre) of it is water, making it the 32nd largest by size in South Dakota.

The population density was 1.2 people per square mile (0.46/kmē), giving it the third least densely populated county among the South Dakota. There were 614 housing units at an average density of 0.6 per square mile (0.23/kmē). The average household size was 2.34 and the average family size was 2.98. In the Jones County, 26.2% of the population was under the age of 18, 6.2% were 18 to 24, 25.5% were 25 to 44, 23.9% were 45 to 64, and 18.2% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 103.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 102.8 males.
