Jones County is a one of the county from North Carolina's 100 counties, located in Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. In 2000, the population was 10381. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 10113, It is North Carolina's fifth least populous county. Its area is just over 473.32 square miles (1225.89 kmē), of which, 471.88 square miles (1222.16 kmē) of it is land and 1.44 square miles (3.73 kmē) of it is water, giving it the 53rd largest by total area among North Carolina's county.

The population density was 22 people per square mile (8.49/kmē), giving it the third least densely populated county among the North Carolina. There were 4679 housing units at an average density of 9.9 per square mile (3.82/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.53 persons, and the average family size was 2.99 persons. The population's age distribution was 25.7% under the age of 18, 6.8% from 18 to 24, 26.9% from 25 to 44, 25.2% from 45 to 64, and 15.4% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 93 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.9 males. Its population was estimated at 10113 in July 2008, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 6584 White, 3366 Black or African American, 43 American Indian, 20 Asian, 4 Native Hawaiian, and 96 from two or more races.
